In 1906, Cavalieri Florio
organized the first Targa Florio, run over a wild, mountainous, 93-mile
circuit in Sicily. The first race attracted little attention, which was
a great pity because Florio had conceived the excellent feature of
confining the cars to a specific maximum price.
